The New York State Liquor Authority (SLA) has recently been made aware of a sophisticated scam targeting applicants and licensees. Fraudulent emails have been sent that appear to come from the SLA and request payment via wire transfer. We want to alert you to this scam and remind you to remain vigilant when receiving communications regarding licensing matters.
Please note:
- The SLA does not request payments by wire transfer and will never direct you to send funds via wire transfer.
- Official SLA email addresses always end with @sla.ny.gov.
- Fraudulent emails may appear legitimate, but often contain subtle misspellings, altered email addresses, or unusual payment instructions.
- Be cautious when clicking links or downloading attachments from unexpected or suspicious emails.
Before responding to any email requesting payment or sensitive information, carefully review the sender’s email address and the contents of the message. If something seems suspicious, do not respond or send payment. If you are unsure whether a communication is legitimate, please contact the SLA directly at [email protected].
