While the SLA strongly encourages customers to complete their transaction online, by telephone or through the mail when possible, our offices in Albany and Buffalo have been allowing limited in-person transactions. Additionally, our Zone 1 Office in New York City will reopen on Monday, June 29.
All customers are required to have an appointment prior to appearing at any of the agency’s office locations. Customers with an appointment may drop off documents, however, to avoid gatherings in the waiting area, customers may not wait for a license or permit to be issued. Prior to the public health emergency, it was customary for customers to wait. However, at his time, they should not expect to receive their license certificate, temporary operating permit, etc. in person. License certificates will be sent via US Postal Service, while temporary operating permits will be emailed directly to the licensee. Should there be a timing issue regarding the surrender of a prior license and the issuance of a new Temporary Retail Permit, applicants should contact [email protected] to coordinate.
Customers are required to wear a facial covering to enter any SLA office. Likewise, SLA employees interacting with members of the public will wear face coverings and observe social distancing protocols. The SLA has placed social distancing markers throughout each office location, employees and customers are required to adhere to these markings. Additionally, the SLA has designated the hours of 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday to exclusively serve members of vulnerable populations.
The SLA has enacted these social distancing protocols and other best practices recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the New York State Department of Health in order to protect the health and wellbeing of our customers and employees. We thank you for your cooperation.
