SLA Underage Drinking Detail Nets 9 Sales to Minors in Orange County

The New York State Liquor Authority (SLA) today announced the results of an underage sting operation conducted on March 7, 2019 in Orange County.  SLA investigators, along with the Washingtonville and Blooming Grove Police Departments, working with underage agents, conducted an underage-drinking sting operation visiting 16 businesses.  In total, the undercover minor was able to purchase alcohol at 9 of the 16 businesses visited.

The businesses selling to minors were:

    60 Brotherhood Plaza Dr., Washingtonville

    30 Brotherhood Plaza Dr., Washingtonville
  • Sunoco
    1197 Rt. 208, Monroe
  • Super Discount Wine & Liquor
    1200 Rt. 208, Monroe
  • C & G Deli Country Store
    809 Rt. 208, Monroe
  • Cookoo’s Nest
    809 Rt. 208, Monroe
  • Hook & Ladder Saloon
    5 E. Main Street, Washingtonville

 

The businesses refusing to sell to minors were:

  • Stewart’s Shops
    26 E. Main Street, Washingtonville
  • Newport Beverage
    7 Depot Street, Washingtonville
  • Brother Brunos
    40 Brotherhood Plaza Dr., Washingtonville
  • F & J Pizzeria
    7 Goshen Ave, Washingtonville
  • Hennessy Wine & Liquor
    6 Depot Street, Washingtonville
  • 208 Grill
    590 Rt. 208, S. Blooming Grove
  • Loughran’s Irish Pub
    Rt. 94, Salisbury Mills


Licensees charged by the SLA with underage sales face civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation, with fines starting from $2,500 to $3,000 for a first-time offense. Repeat offenders also face possible suspension or revocation of their licenses.  In addition, employees or licensees who sell to minors can be arrested and charged with a misdemeanor.  Undercover decoys work under the direct supervision of SLA Beverage Control Investigators.
