This evening at a special meeting, the State Liquor Authority ordered emergency summary suspensions for Genesee Speedway LLC, doing business as “Genesee Speedway” at 5056 East Main Street in Batavia.

The licensee conducted races open to the public with firework displays on July 4, 2020 in violation of the Governor’s Executive Orders implemented to combat the coronavirus, with the licensee now advertising auto races open to the public scheduled for today, July 9, 2020. The licensee was warned prior to today’s event by the SLA that racing in front of a live audience is specifically prohibited under Executive Order 202.47. Effective immediately, no alcohol may be sold or consumed on the premises of these businesses.

“While we’re sympathetic to the economic hardships these businesses face, amid a global health pandemic these types of events pose too great a threat to the progress our state has made," Chairman Vincent Bradley. "With the spikes we’re seeing throughout the rest of the country, the SLA cannot in good conscience condone events that are bound to attract large crowds.”
