Information
PURPOSE: To gather public input on the proposed change in hours of operation for liquor and wine stores in Dutchess County.
The New York State Liquor Authority (SLA) will hold a hearing on August 27th, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Poughkeepsie Town Hall to gather public input on the proposed changes in hours of operations for the sale of wine and liquor for off-premises consumption in Dutchess County. SLA Chairman Vincent Bradley will preside over the hearing.
On May 20, 2019 the SLA received a resolution adopted by the Dutchess County Legislature requesting that the SLA modify the hours of operation for the off-premises sale of wine and liquor. Under the Alcoholic Beverage Control Law, upon receipt of a resolution by a county legislature, the SLA is required to hold a public hearing in the county requesting a change in hours. On June 27, 2019, the Members of the SLA voted to schedule a public hearing at the Poughkeepsie Town Hall on August 27th.
Currently, Dutchess County allows liquor and wine stores to be open from 9 a.m to 7 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, and from noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays. Sales during the five major holidays, New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Thanksgiving, are permitted from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Under the proposed changes, weekday and Saturday hours would be extended until 9 p.m., Sunday hours would remain the same, and holiday hours would be extended from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Any person who wishes to speak either in support or in opposition to the proposed changes is encouraged to attend the hearing. Speakers will be heard in the order they sign in at the hearing site. Attendees wishing to speak may sign in beginning at 4:00 p.m. on the day of the hearing.
Any person who is unable to attend the hearing but who wishes to make their views known may submit a written statement to the SLA. To become part of the record, any written statement must be emailed or postmarked no later than August 30, 2019. Written statements should be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to:

RE: DUTCHESS COUNTY HEARING
Please note, a final determination on whether to modify the hours of sale for liquor and wine stores in Dutchess County will not be made on August 27, 2019. That decision will be made by the Members of the Authority at a Full Board meeting following receipt and review of the written report of the public hearing.
